Gjeebs drove a Tesla Model Y premium all-wheel drive from Arizona to Pennsylvania with two children under four, a packed boot and a frunk full of luggage, and came back with a receipt. Across roughly 2,000 miles and four days the video totals 15 charging stops, 6 hours and 40 minutes plugged in, and $221.38 spent on electricity, at an average of 284 watt hours per mile. That last figure is the one worth sitting with. It was achieved at American interstate speeds, in July heat, into headwinds, in a car loaded to the roof. This is not a range test in ideal conditions. It is what the number looks like when a family is genuinely using the car.

The choice of vehicle is the part worth arguing about. The presenter says the household also owns a Rivian R1S tri-motor, which he calls an amazing vehicle with three rows and far more space, and that they took the smaller Model Y anyway for two reasons: the driver assistance and the charging network. He says the Tesla charges quicker and more consistently than the Rivian and that they did not want to rely on third party chargers. That is a specific claim about what matters over four days rather than what reads well in a brochure. $221.38 across 2,000 miles is about eleven cents a mile in energy. The 6 hours and 40 minutes plugged in, spread over four days, works out at roughly an hour and forty minutes a day, and the video is clear that much of it was voluntary. Several stops were meals. A family that stops every couple of hours regardless pays a far smaller time penalty than the raw total suggests.

The day by day breakdown is the most useful thing here. Day one covered 534 miles with 7 hours 52 minutes of driving, three stops, 1 hour 36 minutes plugged in, 151 kWh and $61.25, at 275 watt hours per mile. Day two covered 533 miles across five stops for $68.76, at 311 watt hours per mile, which the presenter attributes to high speed limits through Texas and Oklahoma and to long, unhurried stops. Day three came in at 575 miles, four stops, 1 hour 49 minutes plugged in, 170 kWh and $59.51, at 279 watt hours per mile. He also demonstrates the car's energy screen coaching him to slow down by 5 mph to save between 5 and 12 percent, and attributing a 2 percent penalty to an 11.4 mph southerly wind. One practical warning worth passing on: he says setting the wipers to a fixed low speed during rain degraded camera visibility enough to drop the car out of FSD, and recommends leaving them on auto.

The passenger seat verdict is the one most road trip videos leave out. Asked what worked, the presenter's wife says the driving assistance removed the stress of overtaking trucks and changing lanes and let her look at the country going past. She also says she had none of the back trouble that an earlier trip in a previous car caused her, which she attributes less to the suspension than to how much less noise and vibration reaches the cabin. The complaints are consistent and unrelated to charging: they want more space, more range would mean fewer stops, and reaching children in the back row over the seat bolsters is awkward. On the road they also encountered a rare queue at a supercharger in Missouri, which the presenter attributes to it being the fifth of July.

Bottom line: eleven cents a mile and 284 watt hours per mile, with four people and a full load, is the answer to the question people keep asking about EV road trips, and it is a boring answer, which is the point. The honest caveat in this video is not range, it is space. Both adults say the same thing on camera: they wanted the bigger car and took the smaller one because the charging worked. That is a charging network review wearing a car review's clothes, and on a 2,000 mile run the network still outranks the vehicle.
