Gjeebs parks the 2027 Chevy Bolt, the Tesla Model Y Premium and the Hyundai Ioniq 9 Calligraphy next to each other and works through what changes as the price climbs. The Bolt opens at $28,000 in LS trim, and the RS in the video is optioned to roughly $35,000. The Model Y Premium, the video says, starts at $45,000. The Ioniq 9 Calligraphy on camera is a $76,000 car, though the video puts the model line's entry price around $58,000. What the walkthrough shows is that the money does not buy speed or range. It buys the parts of an EV you touch every day.
The framing worth keeping is that these are three different vehicles pretending to be three price tiers. A five-seat hatchback, a five-seat crossover and a six-seat SUV with captain's chairs solve different problems, so the interesting comparison is packaging, not equivalence. That matters for anyone shopping a budget rather than a body style, because the feature that separates these cars is increasingly software rather than hardware. All three, per the video, either use or accept the NACS connector, so the plug advantage that used to sort EVs into two camps is fading. What is left is route planning, preconditioning and how much configuring the driver has to do. The Ioniq 9 Calligraphy brings an 800-volt system that the video says charges at up to 350 kW and covers 10 to 80 percent in 24 minutes, an Alcantara headliner, second-row heated and cooled captain's chairs and CarPlay.
There are smaller notes that tell you more than the headline numbers. The Ioniq 9 runs a 110 kWh pack that the video says is the same size across the range, with the tested car rated at 311 miles and range shifting with wheel choice and drive mode. Gjeebs says he is considering trading his own Rivian R1S for one, mainly for the charging speed and the captain's chairs.
Bottom line: The Bolt is the honest one here. It gives up the frunk, the power trunk and the driver-assist crown, and keeps the two things that actually decide whether a road trip is pleasant: route planning and automatic preconditioning. If your budget tops out near $35,000, you are not settling. The Model Y still wins on software and charging reliability, and the Ioniq 9 is the one to buy if you carry people. But the story of this comparison is that $28,000 no longer means compromise. It means fewer buttons.
