Out of Spec Testing has taken a base Porsche Cayenne Electric down a runway at its test track, and the numbers tell a more awkward story than the badge suggests. The car is a $125,000 example as tested, specced for range rather than pace: no rear axle steering, no torque vectoring, no active ride, no sunroof, no Sport Chrono, and 20 inch aero wheels wearing a range optimised Pirelli. The channel records a best of 4.33 seconds to 60 mph and a 12.75 second quarter mile with launch control engaged. Flooring the same car without launch control returns 4.7 seconds to 60 and a 13.1 quarter. That gap is not tyres, temperature or a bad run. Full power is only released in launch control.

We covered the same base specification yesterday, when Out of Spec Reviews put a Cayenne Electric through a charging and highway range run in 91 degree heat. This is the other half of the picture on the same car, and the wheel and tyre package explains a good deal of both halves. The tyre is a Porsche specific Pirelli Scorpion MS, which the video notes will behave differently from an off the shelf version of the same tyre. That matters for anyone comparing figures across reviews of this car. A Cayenne on the optional performance wheels, or with the carbon ceramic brake package, is not the car being tested here. If you are shopping the base car precisely because the aero wheels help range, these are the numbers that apply to you. If you intend to spec up, find a test run on the wheels you actually plan to order.

The mechanical differences run deeper than option boxes. The video reports the base car uses the rear motor from the Macan Electric, which is not direct oil cooled, where the Cayenne S and Turbo get an oil cooled unit with a different stator length. Nominal output is described as just over 400 horsepower, rising to roughly 440 to 450 in launch control on a boost of about 25 kW. The host says he has run into no thermal issues, and notes the pack chilled itself to around 20 degrees below ambient in sport mode between runs. Traction control made no measurable difference, and raising the suspension one notch produced the quickest 0 to 60 of the session at 4.33 seconds. Braking is the standout. The first stop from 75 mph measured 192 feet, which the video says matches the Model Y Performance figure recorded on the same track that morning, on a car it puts at about 5,500 lb and on a range tyre. Repeat stops fell off to 196 and 197 feet.

A few of the smaller findings are worth having. The video says the pack will not recuperate meaningfully above roughly 90 percent state of charge, showing a maximum of around 15 kilowatts at the top of the pack, so early braking on a full battery goes almost entirely to the friction brakes. Normal and comfort drive modes both returned around 4.88 to 4.89 seconds to 60 mph and a 13.2 second quarter, and launch control is not offered outside sport mode at all. The host also mentions a quoted regeneration figure of up to 600 kilowatts for the Cayenne, while saying he is not certain the base configuration reaches it.

Bottom line: Porsche has built a very good $125,000 car and then locked its last chunk of power behind a launch procedure nobody performs on a real road. The video's complaint is the right one. Nominal power is what you actually drive with, and on that number this is an expensive SUV that the channel's own Model Y Performance benchmark, run the same morning and quicker through the quarter, would simply drive away from. What the money buys is the chassis, the isolation and the brakes, and the brakes genuinely earn it. Buy this one for refinement. Do not buy it for the stopwatch.
