The first-generation Kia e-Niro is not a car anyone photographs. It arrived in the UK in 2019 looking like a slightly swollen crossover, and seven years later that is still the kindest thing said about it. Electrifying's used buying guide argues that this is exactly why it deserves a look. The presenter reckons a good one now sits under ten thousand pounds, and says the big-battery version still returns more than 250 miles of usable range in ordinary driving. The video puts the two battery options at 39 kWh and 64 kWh, rated at 180 and 282 miles WLTP respectively, and is clear that the larger pack is the one worth hunting for. Everything else about the car, the warranty, the equipment, the reliability record, follows from choosing correctly at that first fork.
What makes the e-Niro interesting in 2026 is timing. Kia's seven year, 100,000 mile warranty, which the video credits for much of the brand's reputation with used buyers, was one of the reasons early adopters took a chance on the car at all. Cars first registered in 2019 have now passed that seven year mark. The video does not dwell on it, but it changes the maths. Warranty cover is no longer the safety net, so the certified battery health check the presenter recommends stops being a nice extra and becomes the entire basis for valuing the car. The same logic applies to the ex-taxi examples the presenter says are now circulating. A taxi that covered 100,000 miles will have spent far more of its life on rapid chargers than a private car showing the same odometer reading, and that history does not appear anywhere on the dashboard. Ask about charging habits, not just mileage.
The real-world numbers in the video come from Electrifying's own editor, who the presenter says ran a 64 kWh car for close to a year. According to the video she was seeing more than 5 miles per kilowatt hour in summer, including motorway running, which the presenter puts at over 300 miles of range, and between 3.5 and 4 miles per kilowatt hour in winter, or roughly 220 miles. Charging is where the age shows. The video reports a peak of 80 kW, a 10 to 80 percent top up in around 45 minutes, and about half an hour for 100 miles, using the same CCS and Type 2 connectors as everything else on sale. On durability, the presenter says cars close to or beyond 100,000 miles are turning up with more than 90 percent of their capacity intact. She also flags a recall on some 2020 cars for a coolant leak, which the video says has since been resolved.
Equipment is the other half of the argument. The presenter says every Mark 1 e-Niro got adaptive cruise control as standard, and that the 3, 4 and launch edition trims added a 10 inch touchscreen with navigation, heated leather seats and physical shortcut buttons. The 2 trim, the only one offered with the small battery, loses navigation but keeps Apple CarPlay. She rates the regenerative braking highly, describing three fixed levels on steering wheel paddles plus an adaptive mode and a one pedal setting. Boot space is quoted at 451 litres with the seats up, which the video notes is more than the newer VW ID.3 offers. The one driving complaint is traction: front wheel drive and 204 hp in the big-battery car means it spins its front tyres easily, and the presenter says that goes through tyres.
Bottom line: buy the 64 kWh car or do not bother. The 39 kWh version is rarer, slower and short enough on range that it undoes the reason you went used in the first place. What you are really paying for here is boredom, in the good sense: a known battery record, ordinary connectors, a huge boot and no reputation for surprising its owner. The video says taxi drivers bought these in numbers, which is the only endorsement that has ever counted in used car buying. If you want something interesting on the driveway, keep scrolling.
