A startup called Power Station Charging opened its first site off I-15 in the Mojave Desert between Barstow and Baker, drawing zero power from the grid. It pairs 1,080 solar panels generating up to 640kW with 3.5 megawatt-hours of on-site battery storage to stay open around the clock.

Four CCS fast chargers share up to 360kW right now, and the host pulled 177kW with one other car charging simultaneously on his 800V vehicle. Six NACS plugs arrive later this year. Charging is free until the end of May, then shifting to demand-based pricing the company says will undercut nearby fast chargers.

The I-15 corridor between Los Angeles and Las Vegas has seen significant charging infrastructure expansion recently, making this stretch one of the more well-served EV routes in the country.
