A test EQS fitted with a next-generation lithium metal solid-state battery, developed with Massachusetts-based Factorial Energy, covered 749 miles from Stuttgart through Denmark to Malmo, Sweden on a single charge, arriving with 85 miles of range still on the clock. The battery packs 25 percent more usable energy into the same size and weight as the standard EQS pack. Pneumatic actuators handle the natural volume changes cells go through during charge cycles. Mercedes CTO Marcus Schaefer confirmed the goal is series production before the end of this decade.
