Solar's headline race is no longer only about price, it is about how much power a single roof panel can produce. At Intersolar in Munich, the Artisan Electrics team reports that Aiko showed what it calls the first standard size panel to reach 500 watts, helped by an efficiency figure of around 25 percent, plus a 40 year warranty and an all black design. Rival JA Solar was close behind with a 495 watt standard size panel at 24.8 percent. The video frames the show, one of the largest renewable energy events with thousands of exhibitors across many halls, as a snapshot of where home and commercial solar is heading, from foldable portable panels to vertical arrays, solar roof tiles, and a growing wave of plug in solar kits.

The reason a 500 watt standard size panel matters is space. There are also compact plug in battery and inverter kits from several brands, aimed at balconies and rentals where a full rooftop install is not an option, a category the host says is drawing a lot of attention this year.

Bottom line: Trade shows reward the shiniest spec, so read the 500 watt milestone as a direction rather than a shopping list. The more practical takeaway is the one the host keeps returning to: the best hardware often lands in the UK late, or not at all, because of certification.
