Ferrari brought its first fully electric car, the Luce, to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for its first UK appearance, and Electrifying used the visit to take a close first look. The reveal, the presenter says, was among the most divisive car launches in years, a design that broke the internet much as Jaguar's polarizing concept had done shortly before. Two things make this car a departure. It is Ferrari's first fully electric production model, and it is the first four-door, five-seat production Ferrari the company has built. The presenter reports a design led by Jony Ive, the man behind the iPhone, rather than Pininfarina, the studio Ferrari leaned on for more than sixty years. On paper the numbers are large: the video cites 1,050 horsepower, a 0 to 62 mph time of 2.5 seconds, and a 192 mph top speed, wrapped around a 122 kWh battery and a quoted range of about 320 miles.

The Luce debuted publicly at Goodwood Festival of Speed, the annual motorsport hillclimb held at Goodwood House in West Sussex, which is the setting for these first-look impressions. Some context on the electrification itself: the video notes Ferrari is not new to it, pointing to hybrid technology the brand introduced with the LaFerrari back in 2013, but the Luce is the first car it has built with no engine at all. The consideration an EV buyer should sit with is the range figure. A quoted 320 miles is respectable rather than class-leading, and the presenter concedes it may read low for the money, with a starting price put at around 450,000 pounds. The company's own pitch, as relayed in the video, is that it leans on fast charging instead of a giant battery: an 800-volt system said to accept up to 350 kW, plus a DC-to-DC converter so it can still use older 400-volt chargers. That last detail matters more than it sounds, because compatibility with existing charging hardware is something several rivals have gotten wrong.

The video reports the battery pack uses cells from a Korean supplier but is assembled in Maranello, with roughly 15 cells that can be removed and replaced, and four motors, one per wheel, driving all four corners. The pack is built into the car's structure, which the presenter says stiffens the chassis and keeps the center of gravity low. According to Electrifying, the Luce carries the lowest drag coefficient of any production Ferrari, with active front grilles and floating front and rear wings shaped for airflow rather than the raw downforce some rivals chase. The presenter, who admits to starting in the skeptical camp, says the car looks better in person than in photographs and singles out cabin details: a key that hands its light over to the gear selector when you start the car, dials with a second glass layer for a faux-analog depth, and a recycled-aluminum steering wheel. The video also notes engineered sound and programmed gear-change behavior meant to preserve some drama, a genuine five-seat cabin with room in the middle, and a 597-liter boot the presenter compares to a Skoda Enyaq.

Bottom line: Ferrari did not build the Luce to win a spec-sheet fight, and it shows. The range is ordinary and the price is enormous, so the only question that matters is whether a four-door electric Ferrari can still feel like a Ferrari from behind the wheel, and a static show car cannot answer that. If you are cross-shopping six-figure electric grand tourers, wait for a proper drive before judging. If you just want Ferrari to keep making things that look like nothing else, the Luce already delivers on that count, whether or not the internet has forgiven it.
