California Is Putting Solar Panels Over Its Canals. It Solves Two Problems at Once.

Project Nexus covers California's irrigation canals with solar panels, blocking evaporation and generating clean power simultaneously. UC Merced research indicates covering all 4,000 miles of major canals could save 63 billion gallons of water annually and produce 13 gigawatts of energy. The concept has been discussed for decades. It is finally being tested in the Central Valley.
