Priced around 130,000 dollars, it is not cheap, and the test is not gentle. The result, per the hosts, is about 25 miles at full throttle before the boat derates and calls it a day. The surprise is not the range. It is that the powertrain never overheats.
Boats are brutal on batteries in a way road EVs are not. A car glides on hard pavement; a boat shoves water aside the entire time, which is why the same size of battery that moves a truck a couple of hundred miles moves this boat a couple of dozen. The video is refreshingly precise about it, quoting efficiency in kWh per mile rather than the flattering miles-per-kWh figure a car would use. That framing is the whole buyer lesson. There is a second consideration the review circles but any prospective owner should weigh directly: charging. Public marine fast-charging barely exists compared with the road network, so in practice you are dock-charging, usually overnight, which makes the boat's slow onboard charger a bigger deal than its top speed. This is a vessel built for a lake-house life of short hops between the dock and dinner, not open-water range days. The reviewers' own wishlist is telling: a dual-motor, dual-battery setup near 160 kWh and an 80-amp onboard charger, changes that would ease both the range and the long charge times.

At wide-open throttle the boat cruised around 27 to 29 mph and drew roughly 84 kW, burning about 3 kWh per mile, and it held full power right up until 10 percent charge, when a low-power mode dialed it back for the limp home. In a brief boost the outboard showed about 130 horsepower, the hosts say. Total distance came to about 25 and a half miles. The battery is rated around 1C, the hosts note, which caps output near that 84 kW ceiling. Charging is the weaker link: the hosts cite a 30-amp onboard charger, roughly 7 kW, and 11 to 12 hours from empty to full, slower still when charging out of the water because the system is thermally limited. They found that hosing down the heat-sink plate actually sped up AC charging. Cost was the bright spot, about 13 dollars for a full charge at local rates, against a fuel bill the hosts say ran far higher on their combustion boat. They add that the borrowed boat gave no faults across the run, and that during filming the Flux CEO offered a remote software update to unlock more power.
Bottom line: This is an early-adopter boat, and the review is honest about it. The Flux powertrain impressed where it mattered most, holding full power for an hour straight without a thermal tantrum, and the running costs are a fraction of gas. But you pay roughly double a combustion equivalent for about 25 miles of wide-open range and an overnight charge, so the case only closes if you live the lake life it is built for and value quiet, fuel-free cruising over distance. For the right dock, it is genuinely appealing. For open water, the hosts would still take gas.
